OUTDOOR EDUCATION
ranging Through the Atlas Mountains
Intrepid Third and Fourth Form students flew to Morocco at Easter on a ten-day
expedition. From Marrakech, the students journeyed inland to the Toukbal National
Park where they trekked, supported by donkeys and local guides, through part of
the Atlas Mountains. After wild camping in the mountains at heights of around
2,500m, they headed for the Avon Academy in Ouarzazate, where they helped
with the school’s renovation project. Final sight-seeing and shopping at the souks
in Marrakech ended this incredible trip – one which we’re sure will be back in the
Bloxham calendar again!
CCF
The CCF welcomed some new staff this
year with 2nd Lt. Henry Woodthorpe and
Padre Weaver joining our numbers.
In October, the CCF travelled to North
Yorkshire for a two-day exercise based at
the outdoor education centre, Adrenaline.
Arriving late on the Monday night, the
cadets set up a harbour area in the woods,
prepared their meals from 24-hour ration
packs and slept under bashas. The next
morning, they completed the abseiling,
high ropes and leadership challenges and,
in the afternoon, had survival training.
This stood them in good stead when, later,
they had to build their own shelters from
logs and bracken and light a fire which
would stay alight all night. Wednesday
morning was the opportunity to run the
Kypton Factor obstacle course, which is
one of the muddiest and most challenging
