Debating

Debating has grown in popularity this
year. Every house fielded at least one team
for the house debates in the Lent Term, a
fiercely fought event with topics ranging
from HS2 to performance enhancing
drugs. Congratulations to Will Brodey
and Denis Popov of Crake, who narrowly
triumphed over a strong Raymond Fourth
Form team to win the inaugural Alexander
Debating Cup.

In November and February, students
attended Model United Nations events,
debating global issues alongside other
schools, and representing different
countries in committees as in the real
United Nations. These exciting events
allowed students to develop a range of
skills, including public speaking and
debating, networking and teamwork.
Despite little previous experience, our
students showed enthusiasm, forming
alliances with other countries, proposing
resolutions and amendments and earning
a clutch of commendations. CMS
