Eunoia meetings and lectures
        Day: Thursday
        Time: 6:45pm-7:45pm
Venue: Room 1 (activity), VLR (lectures)
Open to: Fifth Form - Upper Sixth
        MIC: Dr J Moyle
Selection: Weekly sign up. The topic for discussion/debate at each meeting will
be announced in advance and a sign up list will be on the Eunoia notice board
from Wednesday morning. Maximum for a session: 10 students. Less frequent
Eunoia lectures will tend to be scheduled at the same time. When there is a
Eunoia lecture, the weekly meeting will make way for this. Eunoia lectures are
compulsory for academic scholars, exhibitioners and other students identified
from the previous year’s exam performances.
Description: A range of academic and cultural issues will be discussed and
explored in the meetings. A 10 minute stimulus might be used as a prompt for
discussion (eg a newspaper article of recorded discussion from Melvyn Bragg’s
In Our Time radio series). Some sessions may involve another member of staff
as a ‘guest’ participating in discussion. There may be an opportunity for some
students to present an academic paper or ‘mini TED talk’ in a designated session
towards the end of a term. Eunoia lectures will usually take the form of more
formal talks and presentations (there will be a range of speakers with some
        specialist academics visiting Bloxham).
Skills learnt: Critical thinking, communication, reasoning and formulating
        independent perspectives and arguments.
