Green Pastures Nursing Home
Day: Thursday
Time: 3:40pm – 4:50pm

Description: Green Pastures Nursing Home involves a trip to Banbury to support
elderly residents and to help them engage in interesting activities ranging from
the arts and crafts, to various board games, musical events and hands-on baking
classes. The students involved help organise and run these events and it’s a
fantastic opportunity to engage with a variety of elderly people from a very
diverse range of backgrounds. Students thoroughly enjoy building a rapport with
the residents and they find the experience exceptionally rewarding, helping to
make a real difference to someone’s day.
Skills learnt: Aids the development of good listening skills, communication,
dependability, compassion, empathy and patience.

Description: Some students are able to arrange their own community service
outside of the options listed here. This is encouraged, shows initiative and gives
the opportunity to shape a service option that is most applicable to you.
Rainbows Nursery - Bloxham
Day: Day to depend on free periods
Time: To fit with Lower Sixth timetable
Open to: Lower Sixth

Description: This service takes place at the local nursery, looking after children
from 3 months to 5 years. You will help staff to run/lead activities.
Skills learnt: Interacting with others, community cohesion, opportunities in
education, team working, creative thinking, developing responsibility, diplomacy
and empathy.
St Mary’s Primary School
Day: Thursday
Time: To fit with Lower Sixth timetable
Open to: Lower Sixth
Selection: First come, first served
MIC: Mr D Finch
Description: St Mary’s is a primary school based in the centre of Banbury. It is a
diverse school which caters for children of all abilities and cultures. We take two
students into the school to help teach more able students in Years 5 and 6.
Skills learnt: Planning, evaluation skills and public speaking.
