Earlier this week, a group of Fifth Formers visited Oxford to explore studying in the 'City of Spires'. Their day began at Weston Library, where they met Dr. Riadh Salem, a surgical registrar involved in clinical research and pursuing a PhD in Surgical Robotics. This was followed by a city tour with Mr. Batten, culminating at Jesus College, where he nostalgically recalled his time at Oxford, even pointing out his old bedroom window! After lunch and a stroll around the Covered Market, the students enjoyed a fascinating tour of Trinity College with Professor Peter McCulloch, who also shared valuable tips for entrance interviews. With thanks to Dr. Earl and Mr Batten for a brilliant trip that inspired our students' ambitions.
Congratulations to all who performed magnificently at Tuesday’s Gala Concert, an evening celebrating the quality and diversity of music at Bloxham. Showcasing talent across all age groups at St. Mary’s Church, there were polished performances from soloists, choirs and ensembles alike. The evening featured a Brass Ensemble performance of the epic ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ by Copland, the Orchestra's performance of Mussorgsky's ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’, songs from ‘Les Miserables’ by the Show Choir, an Exham Choir performance with sign language, and a joyous rendition of Vivaldi's ‘Gloria’ from the Chapel Choir to bring the concert to a close.
Last week, cadets from Bloxham School’s Cadet Force took part in the Field Day Overnight Exercise: ‘Bloxham Black Ops’. Cadets kitted up and deployed to Hobb Hill, where they established a harbour area and conducted patrols. That night, they detected signs of enemy activity and accurately reported their findings. After enduring a chilly night under bivouacs, the cadets participated in various military skills activities, including command tasks, first aid, an observation lane and semaphore signalling. The exercise concluded with Skill At Arms Training, and promotions were awarded to cadets showing particular leadership potential. All new cadets were also awarded the Rifles’ green beret, which they will now wear with pride.
Earlier this term, our Sixth Form Textiles students had the opportunity to collaborate with the textile artist @jessica_rosestitch. They participated in a Zoom workshop focused on creative recycling and hand embellishments, exploring various techniques Jessica uses in her work when she adds embellishments in both 2D and 3D forms. The workshop emphasised encouraging students to consider using unconventional and recycled items in their Art Textiles. As a result, the students created a technique sampler of different ideas which they will now use to develop their individual projects.
