Old Bloxhamist give their opponents a run for their money across the annual four-day cricket festival.

A nail-biting finish marks the end of an excellent weekend of cricket for the annual Old Bloxhamist festival.

33 Old Bloxhamists returned to the cricket field to participate in the annual Old Bloxhamist Cricket Festival. 27 played for the OBs, and 6 played for their opponents. The festival started with a match against the South Oxfordshire Amateur 281-6. (OB Dave Taylor 11) off 49.6 overs, Old Bloxhamists 204-6 (Will Gurney 51, Alex Stevenson 43) off 48 overs. Match drawn.

On Sunday, the OBs celebrated two wins; one for Tom Gurney’s XI against Oxford Downs, with Charlie Williams taking 5 wickets, the other for Nick Best’s XI against the Elephant and Castle by 7 wickets, Steve O’Connor hitting 89.

The festival concluded with a thrilling end to the last game, Banbury hung on to the end on 158-9 in reply to the Old Bloxhamists’ 217. Tom Gurney scored his third 50 of the festival to add to Sunday’s 80.

Thanks to all who came to watch, to the school’s ground staff and catering team who both did superb job, and to Simon Finch, as ever, at the Elephant & Castle. Of course, thanks must be extended to all of the Old Bloxhamists who took the time to represent the alumni side, and to Jak Soppet for organising such a successful festival!
