Last weekend, we were delighted to welcome Old Bloxhamists, and the current Senior Prefect team, to the annual Headmaster’s Dinner. This year, the event was particularly special as we welcomed back the Class of 1985, some of whom hadn’t returned to the school in 40 years.

The evening began with Simon Batten leading the Class of 1985 on a nostalgic tour of the school. They revisited old haunts and marvelled at the changes that have taken place over the decades. Highlights included the stunning School library where the old toilet block used to be, and the wonderful Raymond Technology Centre (RTC) where the tractor shed used to be. They were also rather jealous that the swimming pool now has a roof!

Father Alex held a poignant chapel service, where attendees were treated to the beautiful voices of the Sixth Form choir, Harmonix, from the gallery. The service evoked memories of many school mornings spent in chapel. It was especially moving when Father Alex read out the names of classmates from 1985 who are no longer with us.

The dinner itself was resplendent, and our thanks to Patricia and her team of chefs for producing a spectacular meal.

The Headmaster delivered an insightful speech, addressing the challenges faced by independent schools today while highlighting the wonderful achievements of Bloxham’s pupils in various aspects of school life. School Captains Toby and Charlotte also spoke enthusiastically, reigniting House rivalries with stories of this year’s various competitions including House sports, drama and the House Shout. Finally, 1985 leaver Catriona Morris (Wn 83-85) shared fond memories of her time at Bloxham, including anecdotes about her peers including the famous 1985 Founderstide screen prank!

It was a wonderful evening, filled with laughter, memories, and heartfelt moments. Our thanks go to everyone who made it so special.
