The Bloxham School community is sad to announce the passing of Griselda Parrington (staff 78-00), much-loved widow of Gerald Parrington (staff 78-85).
She was a familiar figure to generations of Bloxhamists through her tireless work for the drama department. After handing over the wardrobe department to Sally Brittin-Snell in 2000, she continued to support large school productions by organising the stage make-up team for many years. She is also remembered with fondness by the Sixth Form girls to whom she acted as guardian in the days before Stone Hill and Park Close opened as girls’ houses.
Charles Atkinson, who worked for many years with Griselda in the drama department, says: “Griselda was a joy to work with; she would cheerfully turn up at all the odd hours demanded by school productions to work on costuming and make-up, and she built up an impressive drama wardrobe for the school’s use. She had an instinctive rapport with young people, who in turn responded very positively to her. She was very supportive of the productions the pupils put on themselves, and had an interest in drama of all kinds, from mainstream to fringe. I am sure that all the boys and girls to whom she gave such unselfish help will mourn her passing.”
