Over half term, Simon Batten, our School Archivist, visited Nabugabo Community Primary School in Uganda on behalf of the charity HUGE (Helping Uganda Educate).
He took with him two large bags packed with trainers donated by students and staff at Bloxham. Every child at the school was also given a new school uniform and PE kits thanks to the generosity of schools and individuals in the UK. While there, Simon was very busy for the week: volunteering his time teaching, creating educational displays for the young children, and helping to complete necessary DIY and repair jobs too.
Simon comments: “Bloxham staff and pupils responded magnificently to my appeal; to see the Nabugabo boys and girls putting on the trainers was a joy, as for some of them this the first proper footwear they will have owned. As well as helping them to access sport and PE, it will protect them from threats to their bare feet such as worms and jiggers (sand fleas).”
