On Monday evening, members of Chapel Choir, past and present, gathered to celebrate Mr James Ramm’s remarkable tenure at Bloxham School, as he prepares to leave for pastures new at Christmas. The evening was a complete surprise for James, thanks to the expert collusion of all involved. As he walked into a dark Chapel, he was greeted with shouts and cheers of “Surprise!” and was visibly moved, especially when he saw the number of Old Bloxhamists in the crowd.
The evening began with a beautiful rendition of The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, in Chapel, followed by a delicious dinner ably served by the Sixth Form BTEC Hospitality students. The School catering team outdid themselves, preparing hearty Yorkshire fare in honour of Mr Ramm’s cultural roots: a beautiful take on pie, mash and gravy, followed by crumble and custard.
The after-dinner speeches were a perfect blend of heartfelt thanks and amusing anecdotes. Speakers included Mr Redpath (Director of Music); Liv Finch (Ry 16-21) (on behalf of the OBs), Teagan and Aiden (on behalf of the Chapel Choir) and Mr Best who provided most of the stories! Each speech highlighted Mr Ramm’s significant contributions to the School, including his roles in Music, Crake House, sport, EPQ, and as Head of Third Form. Our thanks also to Miss Manning for uncovering a number of photographic gems of Mr Ramm’s nine years at the School.
After some more beautiful singing to round off the evening, guests departed. Although there is one last big musical event next week for the Choir, Carols by Candlelight, Monday’s celebration was a fitting send-off for Mr Ramm. We wish him all the best in his next chapter and look forward to welcoming him back to Bloxham as part of the OB community.
