Old Bloxhamist Property Careers Networking a Great Success
On Wednesday evening we held our third Old Bloxhamist careers networking event kindly hosted by Jones LangLaSalle in London. Focusing on the property sector, the evening brought over 40 OBs, current parents, students and guests together to network, share best practice and make new connections.
After a warm welcome from Richard Batten, EMEA Board Member at JLL, we first heard from Charlie Bethell (Cr 07-12), Graduate Surveyor at JLL. Charlie spoke about how his journey into the property industry started aged five playing with toy diggers on building sites, this passion developed and he gained a place at Nottingham Trent University. He spoke enthusiastically about his graduate role at JLL. ‘We then heard from Dan Merriman (Ry 91-96), Land Director at Bellway Homes, who gave an insightful view of the intricacies of the land, planning and building process and the impact of Brexit on the industry. Lastly Nick Rudge (Eg 81-84), Residential Director at Savills, spoke about his journey from Cirencester Agricultural College to London and the residential property market. Nick gave a clear overview on Savills’ research and predictions for the market in the next few years, he also shared his passion for the industry and imparted this advice: be calm, be creative, live the business 24/7 and have a belligerent desire not to give in.
After a short Q&A session and words of thanks from Simon Batten guests enjoyed an evening of further networking and reminiscing of days at Bloxham.
