On Wednesday evening we held our fourth Old Bloxhamist careers networking event, with a special focus on UK business and the economy. Over 40 members of the Old Bloxhamist community came together at the Institute of Directors in London to connect with each other in a professional capacity.
Paul Sanderson, Headmaster, welcomed guests to the evening and expressed his delight at seeing a wide range of OBs from recent leavers to more established professionals, highlighting how the careers networking is growing from strength to strength. Mr Sanderson then introduced the three successful and inspirational OB speakers: Iain de Weymarn (Cr 92-97), Private Secretary to the Governor at the Bank of England; Caroline Dungar (n’e Pearson SH/Wn 94-96), HR Chief of Staff at HSBC, and Tony Yates (Ry 81-86), the eminent economist and former Professor of Economics at Birmingham University. Following the talks, Simon Batten chaired a lively and interesting Q&A session fielding questions from the dynamic and ambitious audience. Chatham House rules applied on the evening.
Iain, Caroline and Tony spoke fondly of their formative years at Bloxham School and how what they learnt stood them in good stead in forging their high profile careers in the economy and business sectors. Former economics teacher, Colin Stewart (Staff 71-12) taught all three speakers, was also thrilled to attend the evening and catch up with his former students.’
