James (Jim) Dale (Wn 49-54) passed away peacefully in his sleep on 17 December 2023, at the age of 87. We are grateful to his wife, Anne, for the following obituary:

During his time at Bloxham, which he spoke of with great fondness, Jim was a School Prefect, played 1st XV rugby, shot for the School at Bisley (including in the Ashburton Shield) and founded the Photographic Society. After leaving Bloxham, Jim completed his National Service in Germany where he trained as a tank driver and played rugby for the regiment. In 1960, he married Anne, his best man was David Poore (Wn 49-54) and one of their ushers was John Wright (Wf 50-55). Jim was a great family man; he and Anne had a son and daughter and four grandchildren. They subsequently lived in Nottingham, Buckinghamshire and Essex. He retired, aged 57, after a highly successful career in the Heavy Earth Moving industry. He continued his love of golf, sailing and photography into his retirement.
