On Thursday 21 November, Bloxham pupils, parents, Old Bloxhamists, and Friends of Bloxham gathered at the National Liberal Club, London for an informative evening focused on careers in law.
We offer particular thanks to our four speakers — Daniel Wright (Wf 88-93), Emma Cartledge-Taylor (LS Ry 02-09), Howard Timms (OB Parent), and Atar Shafighian (Sy 96-01) — who spent the first half of the evening sharing their career experiences. With such diverse roles as criminal barrister, planning and environment lawyer, barrister turned licensing and employment solicitor, and intellectual property solicitor, our speakers were able to offer a wealth of knowledge and advice.
They also offered guidance to pupils on navigating applications, interviews, and assessments. The panel addressed questions about their diverse paths into the legal profession (via fine art, the sciences and as a professional musician) and on vacation schemes, training contracts, and pupillage.
The second half of the evening was given to network and talking to each other about aspirations and experiences. The legal sector is vast and varied, making this opportunity for pupils and younger OBs to engage with experienced barristers and solicitors invaluable. A key takeaway from the evening was the importance of gaining experience in all areas of life, which enhances the transferable skills developed during school and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success!
We look forward to more opportunities to inspire and inform our pupils about their future careers.
