At this year’s annual lunch, Old Bloxhamists enjoyed rekindling old friendships and forging new ones.
Last Friday, we welcomed members of the Egerton Society to the annual lunch. This year the event was held at Wroxton House Hotel in the nearby North Oxfordshire village.
Over much reminiscing, Old Bloxhamists enjoyed coming together to rekindle old friendships and forge new ones. Members were welcomed by Headmaster, Paul Sanderson, who gave an update on the health of the school and thanked Egerton Society guests for their support and loyalty. The saying of grace in Latin was given by Peter Barwell.
After the lunch, Chairman Peter Barwell gave a short address and following ten years at the helm, he announced that he was stepping down from his position with deputy Mike Deeley taking over the role as Chairman of the Egerton Society.’
The afternoon’s guest speaker was Simon Batten, published author, historian, staff since 1985 and Old Bloxhamist Resident Secretary. Simon’s fascinating talk centred around Ellen Hinde, daughter of Bloxham School’s founder the Reverend Philip Reginald Egerton, her history and long philanthropic association with the school and the village. Ellen was a generous benefactor to the school, including providing the funding for boys to be educated here and every year, she presented Banbury Cakes to each one in her father’s memory.’
The Egerton Society is the school’s legacy association, established in 2010, it allows philanthropic members of the Bloxham School community the opportunity to contribute to the future sustainability and development of the school through legacies.
