These crazy Covid times meant that our normal Spring Meeting had to be delayed until lockdown protocols were eased. It was decided therefore that both the Greenway Cup and the Humphries Trophy would be contested on consecutive days at the beginning of September.

‘Spring Meeting’ 2020

This was held at Tadmarton Heath Golf Club on Wednesday 2nd September. The course had recovered well from the very dry summer last year and it was our esteemed organiser, Simon Smith, who took full advantage and romped home with a very creditable 36 points. His consistency saw off several players including Nick Reynolds, John Brown and Richard Beard who all got off to fliers until the heavy rain set in to frustrate them.

As usual, Ian Cooper regaled us with stories of his time at Bloxham, including getting his Dad to watch him play cricket at Wellington when in fact the match was taking place in Wellingborough ‘ nothing changes! It’s always good to see new visitors to our OBGS events and this year it was Dick Jones, head boy in 1971.

Autumn Meeting 2020

After many years, the OBGS returned to the wonderful Northamptonshire County Golf Club on Thursday 3rd September, and it was good to be back, even with a bit of rain during the round. There is also a link with Bloxham ‘ Eddie Coker who has his own trophy at the Club, was a previous Organiser of the OB events about 60 years ago.

Everyday life has been anything but normal in 2020, and there was nothing normal about the quality of Carl Norton’s play at The Northamptonshire either ‘ he amassed a mighty total of 41 points on an Open Qualifying course and one he was playing for the very first time ‘ a terrific performance and worthy of the stature of the Humphries Trophy. His acceptance speech after the match was equally impressive!
