We are delighted to announce that tickets are now available for Bloxham’s latest production, 79, with performances taking place between 20 and 22 November.’

Bloxham’s latest production is a very personal project for the school, with the script being the product of collaboration between our Director of Drama, Sam Brassington, and his students. The story itself is based around the lives of four Old Bloxhamists who fought in the First World War and commemorates the sacrifice made by the seventy-nine Bloxhamists who lost their lives. Much of the historical research into former students’ personal accounts was carried out by OBs themselves.

Work on the play has been ongoing since March, with rehearsals even continuing during the Summer Holidays – as part of the rehearsal process the cast even had the opportunity to work with two leading theatre practitioners. This production, which comprises live choral music and original composition and sees no less than 80 students involved, captures the courage, heart and comradeship of Bloxham’s young men and women as their fascinating stories are retold on stage for the first time. We have high hopes for our production of 79 and it has also been entered into this year’s National Student Drama Festival competition.

It’s 1913 and four Bloxham School boys are planning a night-time escape to the girls’ school next door; the worst they have to fear is being caught and made to face the cane… Little do the group of friends know that, outside of their peaceful village, a war is brewing. Soon their lives will be turned upside-down when they enlist to fight in one of the bloodiest wars of all history.

We do hope that you are able to support our students with their latest exciting production. Performances are open to all family, friends and members of the local community and are scheduled for 7.30pm on Thursday 20, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November.
