On Monday 31st October international rugby players Saul Beavis and Amber Reed gave a lecture to Bloxham School’s sports scholars.
Saul, who is currently a sports graduate at the school, represented England in the Rugby League for both the U16 and U18 age groups, before going on to gain a contract with Hull RFU.
Amber Reed was previously a sports graduate and teacher trainee at Bloxham. She has gone on to represent England in over 30 caps so far and is one of only a handful of women to gain a professional contract with the RFU this year.
Both speakers gave helpful advice to the sports scholars on what it takes to be a professional athlete. ‘Valuable messages on the importance of self-sacrifice, mental resilience, time management and drive were explained and illustrated through their own experiences on the journey to playing top level sport.
