The cast for the school’s upcoming production “79” came together over the summer to finalise the script and begin preparations
The cast of 79 had an’excellent week which resulted in many scenes being recorded that are now being refined into a final script.
The cast enjoyed a number of team-building games, including ‘four-square’. Mr Brassington competed fiercely but ultimately’had to hand over the crown of champion to Max’Langer.
The physical work on Tuesday’with Tid was fresh and challenging and resulted in truly inspiring work – images of Oliver Thomas leaping around the room and Rex Money’s moving’poise and stillness spring to mind. The’ideas were new to the group but’credit must go to every member for their’adventurous’and fully committed’response.
On Thursday and Friday, Chris Johnstone worked’on creating scenes through improvisation,’and a range of work was produced from the absurdly comical to the deeply moving. It was inspiring to watch the students produce such creative, honest and mature work. All of the scenes were recorded and this has formed the basis of the script and so we can truly say that this is a piece that the cast have created and have great ownership of.
Given the quality of the productions even in its early stages, we have entered the piece into the National Student Drama Festival, as part of which a professional director will attend an evening of the run and offer feedback. We are up against universities and schools from across the country and have the chance of being one of ten productions selected for the festival in April 2015. It will be a tall order, but I wouldn’t put it past this excellent cast.
The play will be being staged’between the 20 and 22 November so please do make sure to come along and support our brilliant cast in what will be a truly memorable and hugely’powerful performance.
