Two excellent tries from powerful wing Ben S helped Bloxham to a fine 27-3 win at Oundle in the National Schools Plate this week.
The game was a bruising encounter and was still tightly-poised at half time, with Bloxham 8-3 ahead thanks to a well-taken try by debutant Henry S, before the visitors scored three further tries from Ben S (2) and Alfie B (1)’to pull away, with captain Toby S P adding a penalty and two conversions .The scoreline is unrepresentative of the way the game went; although Bloxham were comfortable winners in the end, their victory was based on a strong performance from the pack and excellent defence which prevented a committed Oundle side from crossing their line.
Bloxham’s reward for victory is an away trip in a fortnight to Langley School in Norwich in the last 16 of the competition. This is effectively the regional final, and after the last eight are decided, the draw is done on a national basis, so if they do go through, Bloxham could end up travelling yet further afield, or even getting a home tie at last.
