We are delighted to invite you to our double-header of a school production performed from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th’November 2019. Two one-act plays will be performed each evening: The Wardrobe and Defectors.

The Wardrobe by Sam Holcroft

Originally commissioned by the National Theatre Connections Festival, The Wardrobe is a touching play that uses live music and ensemble movement and will be entered for the National Student Drama Festival competition. It will be performed by students from Third Form through to the Upper Sixth.

Across seven centuries, small groups of children seek sanctuary in the same solid old wardrobe. It’s the safest place they know ‘ but is it safe enough?’

A gripping journey through British history exploring how our country was shaped and how connected we are with our past.’

Defectors, written and devised by Bloxham School

The second performance of the evening will come from our Sixth Form students, showcasing an original production, Defectors, which will transfer to the Edinburgh Festival in August 2020.

It is 1984.’Tina Turner is blaring out across the school bus as a Sixth Form group set off on a trip, leaving the comforts of West Germany to the contrasting reality of the communist East. When they arrive, they are faced with an unexpected and monumental decision.

Based on a true story, Bloxham School’s original devised play will shock and excite as questions of morality and risk hang in the balance.
