Bloxham School’s music scholars captivated their audience with a variety of fantastic performances at the first concert of the academic year on Tuesday.

The opening of the musical events programme at Bloxham set high standards for the rest of the year, with a delightful concert from the school’s music scholars.

The audience of parents, students and staff were taken on a journey that meandered through enchanting piano pieces, mesmerising vocals and rounded off in a dramatic duet that left them hungry for more. The evening took off with a lively jazz piece, played on the flute by third former, Flo. The concert moved from strength to strength as performers as young as thirteen, up to those in their final year gifted us with pieces from Handel, Purcell, Bach, and Schumann amongst others. Particular highlights included Eleanor M’s breath-taking rendition of the showy Saint-Seans’ Allegro Appassionato and Tom K’F’s and Michael Hickman’s exhilarating duet, Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen.

Ellie W from the Upper Sixth said “I believe that the experience of performing has improved the confidence of the musicians and the concert demonstrated the musical talent from all of the students. On behalf of all the performers, thank you to those parents, staff and pupils who came to support the performers. We hope that you enjoyed the concert as much as we enjoyed playing for you
