Our OB Golf Society came together last Friday to contest the Humphries’ Trophy
Thank you to Peter Murray-White for kindly providing the report below:
On a beautiful, late summer’s afternoon, members of the Old Bloxhamist Golf Society met to contest the Humphries’ Trophy at Tadmarton Heath. Players included Tony King, the current holder of both the spring and autumn cups, and John Williams, fresh from his refereeing duties with amongst others, Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson, at the Open. It was also good to see Nick Irvine from the school at one of our events again ‘ his stated aim after the round was to remove all traces of gorse from the course before next year’s gathering!
With Tadmarton in great condition, scoring was good. Tony King’s 36 points were not good enough to retain the cup this time and even 38 points from the ‘super steady’ John Williams fell short. Winner this year with 42 points and a very impressive one over par gross, was our esteemed Society Organiser, Simon Smith. Those lucky enough to be part of his group, witnessed a consistent display of awesome ball striking and deft touches.
Prizes were presented after dinner and Simon thanked Tony King’s wife, Peggy, for preparing lists detailing all historical winners of both the Humphries and Greenway Cups.
Result:
1st. Simon Smith 42 points
2nd. John Williams 38 points
3rd.= Tony King 36 points
3rd.= Dominic Newbould 36 points
5th. Rick Beard
