Bloxham Headmaster, Paul Sanderson, took part in a round-table discussion at the House of Commons this week to address the issue of business and entrepreneurship within schools
Chaired by Chris Heaton-Harris, Conservative MP for Daventry, the event was hosted by the company Amway, to coincide with the publication of its annual Global Entrepreneurship Report 2014.
Mr Sanderson was joined by panellists from business and education including Louise Webster, founder of Beyondtheschoolrun and winner of Amway’s Britain’s Top Real Role Model; Stu Anderson, Blue Serac; and Ghulam Abbas, Mouchel and formerly of the Department for Education.
During a wide-ranging and lively discussion, Mr Sanderson argued for a broader definition of success in schools: ‘In order to be effective we need to change the definition of what it means to be successful at school; it’s a combination of physical, emotional and spiritual intelligence, along with emotional resilience to cope in the event of failure.
Bloxham School has a strong track record in educating and introducing its students to the world of business. Business Studies students take part in the Young Enterprise company programme and our Careers Programme ‘Breakfast Club’ has featured talks from entrepreneurs from a range of backgrounds. In February, we are holding a Meet the Entrepreneurs event, at which students will hear first-hand from a number of seasoned, successful businesses men and women.
