The School was alive with the sound of music, laughter, and reminiscence as Wilberforce celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Wilberforce House celebrated its 100th anniversary yesterday, with the help of over 130 friends.
Bloxham School was delighted to welcome back Old Bloxhamists, former members of staff, and parents for an afternoon tea in celebration of the centenary of Wilberforce House. OBs from every decade since the early 1940s were present and eager to catch up with their contemporaries. The Chapel, Egerton Library, and dining rooms were decorated in keeping with the House colour purple, and in the spirit of the much loved Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, featuring a show-stopping cake as the centre-piece of a beautiful selection of teas, sandwiches, and cakes.’
With the help of a number of Old Bloxhamists, School Archivist, Simon Batten brought the Egerton Library to life with an extensive archive display documenting the past one-hundred years of Wilberforce. The girls invited guests to take a tour of the current House, and whilst a number of Old Bloxhamists had lived in the “new” building during their time here, many had left before the move had taken place, and were delighted to finally see where members of Wilberforce now reside.
Housemistress, Christine McCaffrey, led the toast in the Chapel, thanking everyone for coming to share the special day, and those who had made it possible before introducing the music concert. The audience enjoyed the variety of performances which was demonstrative of both the culture and talent of the Wilberforce girls. The somewhat abrupt ending due to a microphone fault, showed the good nature of the Bloxham community, as the Chapel was filled with laughter, applause, and cries of “encore!”‘
