On Sunday, Bloxham’s first ever girls Rugby Sevens team competed at the Berkhamsted Sevens competition, winning the title in the Section A Bowl Competition
Being part of such a historic occassion undoubtedly increased the girls’ nerves on the day but they competed fantastically to finish as runners up in their group, going on to win the Section A Bowl Competition- their first silverware. Following the victory, the girls can now go on to compete at the Rosslyn Park Sevens, the world’s biggest rugby tournament, in the last week of term with genuine confidence.
A loss to Amman Valley and a convincing victory against Oundle saw the girls end as runners up in their pool, meaning they went through to Section A of the knockout competitions. The girls faced St Joseph du Loquidy in the semi-final, where they fought hard to seal their victory, and then went on to put in a tremendous performance against Richard Hale to finish as champions of the Section A Bowl Competition (finishing fifth out of the 14 teams present on the day).
Louisa Heathcote was nominated as the most valuable player” in the Bowl competition and was also chosen as “Player of the Tournament” by the match officials. I received many compliments from match officials, opposition coaches and tournament organisers about how well the girls conducted themselves on and off the pitch.
