Eunoia Society Workshop: The Private Life of the Diary by Dr Sally Bayley (University of Oxford)
In October, Dr Sally Bayley (University of Oxford) visited the school to speak to the Eunoia Society.
In a compelling workshop-style session she explored the subject of her recently-published book (The Private Life of the Diary) with reference to texts ranging from Virginia Woolf’s handwritten diary to a recently released film about social media.
Will Rymer writes: ‘This engaging talk by Dr Sally Bayley of the University of Oxford not only gave us an interesting insight into the role of the diary within literature, but also raised questions of self, personality and how we come across to other people compared to how we would like to come across. She also explained how the genre of diary writing has carried over into the technological age through blogging, tweeting and even Facebook.’
