The Bridge the Gap tea party returned to Hornton Methodist Chapel for its second year, bringing generations together for an afternoon of joy and connection. Led by Park Close Housemistress Sophie Heathcote, the event highlighted the kindness of Bloxham School students and Hornton Primary School children.
Bloxham School’s Hospitality students played a significant role in supporting the event, where they had the opportunity to put their hosting skills into practice—and they did an outstanding job. Their politeness and helpfulness ensured that everyone was well looked after for the afternoon. The guests enjoyed a delightful array of sandwiches, cakes, scones, and plenty of tea and coffee. Meanwhile, the young children from Willow Class at Hornton Primary School were also busy, decorating gingerbread men and Christmas tree decorations. Their creativity and enthusiasm were a credit to Mrs Whitehouse and the staff of Hornton Primary School.
Upper Sixth student, Maya shared her thoughts on the day, saying, “Everyone was so lovely, and I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with them. It felt very special to be a part of, and I wish I had something like this available when I was at primary school.” The guests were equally impressed, describing the tea party as “an excellent initiative.” One attendee praised the professionalism and warmth of the students, noting, “You could see the polish that those young people brought to the event—it spoke volumes about the pupils at Bloxham School. Well done to everyone involved.”
Event organiser Sophie Heathcote expressed her gratitude and pride in the success of the day. “Bringing together the elderly and youngsters has been a privilege. Witnessing the kindness and trust built between young pupils and the community is truly humbling,” she said. “This event highlights the incredible support from both young and old, and it’s heart-warming to see Bloxham Hospitality students gaining confidence in their roles.”
