Bloxham Sixth Former George is honoured to have been selected to play with the England Lambs Rugby squad

George has come through two stages of selection, including a match this weekend between the North and South, to be selected for the Under 18 Independent Schools Lambs National Squad. The Lambs are an invitational side modelled on the Barbarians who seek to play a ‘fast and free’ game. Back row forward George certainly lives up to this ethos as Bloxham 1st XV’s top try scorer this season, as well as being a key player in Bloxham’s run in the NatWest Vase.

The U18 Lambs squad are preparing for their first fixture this weekend, when they will be facing the Irish Exiles. They will then further warm-up games including against Northampton Saints U17, Saracens U17, and RFU Midlands U18 before they go on tour at Easter to Argentina, where they will play four matches, including games against an Argentinean Select and the National Under 18 sides of Uruguay and Chile. Lambs National Director Alex Laybourne told George, ‘You have been through a long selection process and showed us that you have the ability to play Fast and Free.’ He also commented that the selection committee and management team had an extremely difficult task to whittle the squad down to 36. ‘There were some great players on show and we were delighted to see the boys express themselves with the ball in hand, trying to play open and expansive rugby.

Everyone at Bloxham sends their congratulations and best wishes to George as he prepares for some big challenges ahead.
