Bloxham Fifth Former Freddie has been selected to play with the U16 England Lambs squad
Bloxham Fifth Former Freddie has been selected to play with the U16 England Lambs rugby squad, which has been newly formed this year.
The Lambs squads comprise the top level boys rugby players from independent schools across the country, and Freddie has performed extremely well to be named in their ranks. Having been put forward by Bloxham as a candidate, he travelled to Uppingham School on Sunday 14th February to take part in the trials, which consisted of rugby drills in the morning and three trial matches in the afternoon. Of the initial 150 applicants, only 80 made it through to the trials and 27 were named in the final squad, including Freddie amongst the 15 Forwards. This is an impressive achievement and one that Freddie should be extremely proud of. He and the squad are now training in preparation for upcoming matches, Worcester Warriors on 25th February; the Yorkshire U17 squad on 3rd March; and Saracens at Allianz Park on 7th March.
Freddie has also achieved recognition for his rugby playing at various other levels, including being selected for the Oxfordshire U16 squad back in September and playing in a number of inter-county matches since. He represents the Northamptonshire Alliance and is part of the Saints’ Developing Player Programme (DPP). He has also been selected for the East Midlands team but has yet to play due to trials for the Lambs. Freddie represents his club Olney RFC most weeks, playing with the U17s, an age group above his own.
This is an incredibly exciting achievement for Freddie and we wish him and his teammates the best of luck for each of their upcoming matches. Look out for future updates on Freddie’s rugby career as he looks set to go far!
