Excellent feedback from Bloxham School’s third annual UCAS and FE Conference on Monday 12th September 2016

Bloxham School Sixth Formers filled the Great Hall on Monday night to receive valuable and inspiring insights into higher and further education choices.

The evening included information on the variety of educational choices available, tips for applying to university and a presentation from UCAS’ Samantha Sykes detailing the application process and deadlines, advice on writing a personal statement, and tools for university research and decision making.

The evening received excellent feedback from the pupils who attended:

“The UCAS and FE Conference told me everything I needed to know about getting into university and how to stand out. I enjoyed listening to the Old Bloxhamists, who passed on a lot of advice about how to search for the right course/university. The evening was very informative.”

“I found the UCAS talk last night very useful as a starting point for my journey into the Sixth Form and onwards. I had looked at various universities online, however up until now I had been unsure as to what was very important and what was only of minor importance. For example, I never knew that different courses were taught and assessed in different ways. Furthermore, it was helpful to see how to write a personal statement and how to make your application more attractive to a university.”

“The conference was very informative and I have taken many useful notes on how to make a good personal statement. I have also been made aware of how early you need to start looking at universities and what you need to do when attending an open day.”

“The talk was a helpful insight into the UCAS process, which will decide the next 3-4 years of our lives after school. It was informative, easy to follow and it gave some good tips for being as successful as possible with our UCAS applications.

“Before the talk I was unaware of how the UCAS system worked, in relation to the application stages and choices of University. During the talk I was informed that there were different ‘categories’ which you could choose such as Firm and Insurance- this helped me gain a better understanding of the process. The advice given for personal statements was also highly beneficial and insightful as to what, and what not to write.”

“I found the UCAS talk very beneficial as it gave me a better idea about applying to university, as well as what to do and what not to do. I also found it helpful to hear from Old Bloxhamists as you could find out their own experiences from it as well as getting some advice for the future.”

“I found last night particularly helpful because I had no clue about the process of getting into universities and I now know exactly what I need to do. Also it was useful having the Old Bloxhamists come back and give us a personal insight into how to select the right university and the processes they went through along with tips and hints from the speaker.”
