Bloxham School is celebrating success after achieving a strong set of A Level results and a pass rate of over 99 per cent
This year’s performance marked a significant improvement at the top. The trend in academic progression over recent years continued, with a rise of 12 percentage points in A* to B grades. Meanwhile, the number of A*/As grew by eight percentage points further boosting success.
Good value added scores throughout the curriculum and excellent performances in Maths, English, Geography, Business Studies, Design Technology, Theology and Art helped deliver another impressive set of results. Many students performed better than expected, gaining the opportunity to upgrade their course on the newly-introduced UCAS Adjustment scheme.
Paul Sanderson, Headmaster, said:’ ‘I am incredibly proud of the students, who have all worked so hard and thoroughly deserve their success today. The upward trend in our performance is particularly pleasing and achievement in the AS exams is an encouraging sign of success for next year.’
Amongst those celebrating was Octavia, who secured two A*s and two As and won a place at Bath University to study Civil Engineering. Accompanied by her parents, Octavia said ‘I am really pleased with my results. I am going to enjoy the last few weeks of my holiday and now can’t wait to head to Bath later in September.’
Max, who also achieved two A*s and two As and has gained a place to study Mathematics and Computer Science at Bristol University, said he was ‘very happy ‘ I’ve made it into uni!’
He was joined by Ben, who is taking a year off to complete a work placement and travel before heading to university to study History. On achieving his A* and two As he said: ‘I am so happy and can’t believe how well I’ve done. I’m really excited about my gap year and for what lies ahead.’
Another who achieved A*AA and smashed his target grades is Alex. He is planning on undertaking a ‘Grand Tour’ of Europe, studying the art and culture of the continent, before commencing a Masters in Art History and Business Management at the University of St Andrews.
Others celebrating their results this morning included Claire (A*, A, A) and Abi (A, A, B) who are off to read Modern Languages at Bristol and International Business at Loughborough. The girls were relieved, happy and excited and busy planning their celebrations later today!’
In addition to the A Level successes, five Bloxham students were awarded A* for their EPQ submissions, with topics including Computer Modelling of Gravitational Interactions Between Astronomical Objects and An examination of how the image of the ‘perfect woman’, as portrayed in the tale of Snow White, has changed between the final edition of Grimm’s ‘Children and Household Tales’ (1857) to the present day.
