Bloxham School 1st XV rugby team won the 2019 U18 Schools Plate following a dramatic final against Sherborne School.
Bloxham’s 28-21 triumph at Worcester Warrior’s Sixways Stadium featured a total of seven tries between the sides in a closely fought match yesterday afternoon.
Cheered on by nearly 300 travelling Bloxham students, staff and parents, there were impressive performances from team captain, Toby S.-P., who scored two tries and four conversions and from player-of-the-match, Alfie B., who made his England U20 debut against Scotland last weekend.
Headmaster Mr. Sanderson, said: ‘I am delighted that Bloxham 1st XV have won the Schools Plate beating a very strong Sherborne side in an astonishing final. From number 1 to 15, the team showed remarkable grit, determination, character and skill to triumph. I am extremely proud of the pupils and coaching staff for what they have achieved.’
Head of Rugby Mr. Goldsmith said: ‘It was a fantastic day for the 1st XV and an amazing game of high quality rugby from both sides. The support from the rest of the school was immense and took us over the line for a great win. It was a fitting way for our Upper Sixth to end their school rugby careers.’
