Bloxham School reached the final of the Schools Cup Plate with a hard-fought 20-5 win against Old Swinford Hospital on Tuesday 12th March.
The game was switched at the last minute to Stourbridge RFC on their 4G pitch due to waterlogging at Old Swinford. Bloxham opened the scoring with captain Toby’S.-P. kicking a penalty before the home side scored a try to go 5-3 ahead after six minutes. Three minutes later, Bloxham centre James B. ran in an interception try to retake the lead, with Toby adding the conversion.
Bloxham reached half time 10-5 ahead, but had to withstand long periods of pressure in the second half before Toby kicked another penalty on Bloxham’s first incursion of the half into the OSH 22. A second long range Boardman try stretched the lead, and the conversion made the final score 20 points to 5.
Bloxham had plenty of tackling to do, and Wasps Academy flanker Dan E. deserved his Man of the Match award for an outstanding defensive performance as well as some great carrying. It was important for the team to show that they could win well without the services of Alfie B., away on England Under 20s duty, and they can now look forward to the final against Sherborne on Tuesday 19th March at Sixways in Worcester.
