On Tuesday 1st December, Bloxham’s Chapel Choir performed as part of a beautiful annual Icarus Trust Christmas Concert at St John’s Church, Hyde Park
On Tuesday 1st December, the Bloxham School Chapel Choir enjoyed a great day out to St John’s, Hyde Park, where we were singing as part of the Icarus Trust’s Christmas Concert. We sang three of our favourite songs, including the Hallelujah Chorus, and many Christmas carols.
We arrived at St John’s Church mid-afternoon and got straight onto practicing with the church’s own Head of Music when he gave us some really helpful advice. After this we got some free time to explore the area of London around Hyde Park, which was great. An hour or so later, after having supper, we made our final preparations for the evening’s concert. The concert began at 7.00pm with Once in Royal David’s City, at which point we processed onto the stage along with the St John’s Choir. Then we then took our seats and enjoyed what was a beautiful concert. The concert included a soloist performing O Holy Night, an oboe piece accompanied by a string quartet, the St John’s Choir and, of course, Bloxham performing our own pieces – Wood’s O Thou Central Orb and The Virgin Cradle Hymn by Rubbra.
Many members of the audience came up to say how much they enjoyed the concert and were interested in finding out about the Bloxham School Choir. After the concert, some of the sopranos had the pleasure of meeting actor Robert Bathurst from Downton Abbey and got a picture with him. He said he thought the choir’s performance was very impressive. On the way home, we were treated to a McDonalds after a successful day!
