The half termly Big Issues event occurred on Wednesday 1st February in the evening with an encouraging turnout of mainly Third Form students.

They came to hear about how Christians might respond to suffering. The discussions were led by two students from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics ‘ Alanzo from Canada and Paulson from Uganda ‘ who stimulated searching and personal feedback from Bloxhamists on the subject. The evening started with a clip from the film Guardians of the Galaxy when Peter Quill’s mother dies in hospital.

This prompted a discussion about different world views on suffering ‘ Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Atheist. Then there was a discussion about the Christian view that God himself in Jesus Christ came into the world to suffer for us, so has been through and can sympathise with any of our suffering ‘ He walks with us and in us through all our experiences (Galatians 2:20). Alanzo finished by taking us to Revelation 21:3-4 where God promises to end all suffering when He returns.

Thank you so much to Alanzo and Paulson for sharing your thoughts and insights.
