Bloxham students had the pleasure of meeting conservative county council candidate, Eddie Reeves, during a Services visit to Green Pastures.
On Thursday 27th‘April, Bloxham School’s Services group visited Green Pastures, a care home for elderley people in Banbury.’
Bloxham Services group visit Green Pastures on a regular basis and often chat with the residents, and partake in activities such as making appropriate seasonal cards. This time, students had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with Eddie Reeves, who is a practising solicitor working for a firm in Banbury. Mr Reeves is also running to be the conservative county council candidate. Amongst the group of 6 students and the residence of Green Pastures, students had the opportunity to ask a Mr Reeves a few questions, touching on topics from Brexit, to prison reforms, to Banbury’s Horton Hospital; Bloxham certainly challenged him!
When asked about Brexit, Mr Reeves said that he was a ‘reluctant remainer’ but he has every faith in the current PM, Theresa May. The next question was posed by law student and Lower Sixth Former, Kathryn, who challenged Mr Reeves on Victoria Prentice, Banbury’s MP in Parliament, and a recent suggestion that women and veteran prisoners should be more eligible for early release. Further questions were posed by caregivers at Green Pastures, highlighting the current status of Banbury’s Horton Hospital. Mr Reeves expressed a very passionate view on saving and expanding the Horton. According to Lower Sixth Former, Kathryn, it was obvious that if Mr Reeves was elected on the 8th’June, his first goal would be to rectify the Horton’s situation, especially as it is among one if the most emotive issues this constituency is facing.’
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative experience for Bloxham students, and a brilliant opportunity to have such a range of potential voters together – at both ends of the age spectrum – sharing their views on politics. Thank you to Wendy Martin, Activities Co-ordinater, Green Pastures Christian Nursing Home, and Dr Evans, Head of Careers in Sixth Form, Bloxham School, for their work in organising this.
