On Saturday, we welcomed over 100 guests to school for an afternoon of celebration to mark 20 years of co-education at Bloxham.
Old Bloxhamists, current parents, staff and pupils, as well as former members of staff and the Bloxham community joined us in kick starting the celebrations of 20 years of a fully co-educational Bloxham School.’
Guests were invited for tours of the school before heading to Chapel, where they heard from Headmaster Paul Sanderson, former Deputy Head and Housemistress of Raymond Emma Goldsmith, current School Captain Emily England, the Harmonix Chamber Choir, and other members of Old Bloxhamists and former staff. We were delighted to also be joined by a number of former school captains and head girls, as well as former Headmaster David Exham who spoke of the decision to becoming fully co-educational in 1998. During the address Paul Sanderson had the great pleasure of sharing the school’s new film “20 Years of a Fully Co-educational Bloxham School” which was produced by OB Will Warr and his team at Detail Films.
Simon Batten, School Archivist and OB Resident Secretary, had curated a fascinating and nostalgic display on the history of co-education with photographs and press clippings which were enjoyed by all and our strings musical ensemble gave a wonderful performance.
The Headmaster’s Lawn was buzzing with laughter, reminiscing, catching up with old friends and making new friendships, while enjoying a delicious Prosecco Picnic, catered by the school’s brilliant catering team. The younger ones enjoyed a few games of hide and seek. The afternoon ended with guests enjoying watching some of the home sports fixtures, including the 1st XV rugby team’s fantastic 52-0 win against Malvern and a clean sweep for the girls hockey teams against Downe House.
