Bloxham School 1st XI Hockey Team won the Oxfordshire County Tournament on 12th October 2016.
The girl’s 1st XI Hockey team excelled themselves on 12th October 2016 in the Oxfordshire County Tournament, to pull of a spectacular win.
The team beat Oxford High and Mathew Arnold 2-0, drew 0-0 with Tudor Hall and Helen St Katherines (all pool games – Bloxham finished top), then went on to draw with MCS in the semi’s and the very nerve-wracking penalty flicks also ended with an equal score. Bloxham girls kept their cool and pulled off a win on sudden death flicks, with credit going to Siena and Lauren. The team showed exceptional resilience, and resisted fatigue to beat Tudor Hall 2-0 in the final, giving onlookers the best display the tournament has seen over the last six years. Bloxham have now reached the final of the tournament six years in a row, and have won three out of the last four tournaments.
The players didn’t allow the opposing teams a single goal throughout the day, demonstrating one of Bloxham pupil’s greatest strengths in character; determination, grit and resilience. Every member of the 16 lady squad should be very proud of their efforts and huge thanks goes to the parents for their wonderful support throughout the day. Thanks must also go to David Best for umpiring all day and Lisa Manning for all her help and support. Head of Sport, Becky Odlin, did a fantastic job, assisting with the team’s preparations in the run up to the tournament.
