Bloxham School Sixth Form (16+)

Sixth Form at Bloxham School is all about choice: choice of subjects, choice of learning environment, choice of activities and choice about your future.

Our small class sizes (typically six to twelve students) lead to more student-led learning and a focus on the individual, with teachers and peers providing support, help and guidance. Our bespoke General Studies programme is delivered through a series of university-style lectures, with fortnightly guest speakers discussing topics such as pastoral care, academia, motivation and aspiration, and charitable and vocational work. These seminars are designed to create a sense of independence amongst students, as well as developing the skills necessary for the world of work. This programme is complemented by a flourishing Careers Department, which assists with UCAS applications, offers careers advice and helps to develop leadership skills amongst the students.

The pastoral care each Sixth Former receives is outstanding and is vital in ensuring each Upper Sixth leaver is ready to move on to the next exciting stage of their lives. There are over 70 activities available to Sixth Form students, ranging from music to sport, and art to clay pigeon shooting. Our Sixth Formers are expected to lead and coach in each activity, as well as learn new skills themselves.

Most Bloxham students choose an three A Level subjects to study and additionally students are required to undertake an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), a mini Master of Business Administration (MBA), or the Bloxham Independent Project (BIP). The EPQ and BIP enable students to research any area of interest to produce a dissertation or artefact, ending in a presentation of their project.  Example topics for recent EPQs have included 'The impact of codebreakers on the outcome of the Second World War', 'An evaluation of the jury systems of France and the UK' and 'Exploring Loss and Rejection in Musical Theatre'.

The mini MBA is a level 3 qualification (equivalent to an A Level) and has been created in order to prepare our students with the skills required for the future workplace. Bloxham have worked alongside the University of Buckingham, in particular the Dean of their Business School, Dr. Deba Bardhan Correia, to collaborate on a qualification accredited by the University.
