Upper Sixth pupil Alfie B. has been selected for England’s squad for the Under 20 Rugby World Cup.
At the end of a very successful rugby season, Bloxham School has received the great news that Alfie B has been selected for England’s squad for the Under 20 Rugby World Cup, to be played in Argentina between 4th and 22nd June.
This is a wonderful achievement which caps a memorable season in which Alfie has represented his country at U18, U19 and U20 level and been chosen as Man of the Match in Bloxham’s triumph in the National Schools Plate final in March. Alfie is the only member of the squad who is still at school, and he will be one of the youngest players at the tournament. While U18s have played in the backs at this age group before, it is much more unusual for someone who plays in such a physically demanding position as hooker to be selected.
England have reached the final at the last six World Cups, and Alfie, a product of Banbury Rugby Club, will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of another Old Bloxhamist, Tom Stephenson (Sy 07-10), who picked up World Cup Winners’ medals with England in 2013 and 2014.
Very best of luck to Alfie and the whole England U20 squad.
