Bloxham’s 1st XV rugby team progressed to the quarter finals of the Schools Cup Plate competition with a good away win at Langley School in Norfolk by 43 points to 7 on Wednesday.
The side coped well with a four-hour journey and started strongly despite having to play into a strong wind in the first half. Alfie B scored a hat-trick of tries, while Dan E sealed a man of the match performance with an excellent try of his own at the start of the second half. The foundation of the side’s victory was a great defensive display just before half time, when they held out against sustained Langley pressure on the Bloxham line despite being down to 13 men for the last five minutes of the half. Not only did they not concede any points during this period, but a long-range penalty from Henry H then put Bloxham 24-7 ahead at the break. Captain Toby S P added a try and five conversions, with James B snatching an opportunist try from a hack ahead.
Bloxham’s reward for victory is another long journey in the quarter finals, this time to Greater Manchester to play Cheadle Hulme School, on a date still to be determined.
