Last week, Lower Sixth chemists attended the annual Science Live conference at Birmingham University.

The event took place in the impressive and packed auditorium of Bramhall Music Hall and consisted of five lectures from leading chemists, with two sessions focussing on exam technique and preparation.

Students were particularly impressed by the lectures from Suze Kundu (Surrey) on Nanochemistry, Andrea Sella (UCL) who spoke passionately on the wonder of mercury and Peter Wothers (Cambridge) who waxed lyrical on The Periodic Table. Not only was the day relevant to their current learning, students even found the lectures ‘fun’ – who’d have thought!

Thank you to Dr Floate for running the trip and providing this report.
