To commemorate Remembrance Day and the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, Bloxham has paid special tribute to those who lost their lives in various way over the last week.
A really special service’ was a comment frequently said by pupils and staff after our services of remembrance in Chapel last week. The congregation heard from Mr Batten who spoke about the silhouettes sat amongst the pews, each representing a Bloxhamist who died in the Great War. These have been an incredibly effective feature and a poignant reminder of those lives lost, especially so when surrounded by current pupils during the school’s Remembrance Service. The stories of the five were told to represent all those who died. The story of the drums and bugles of the CCF was also heard and added another dimension to the reflective atmosphere in Chapel.
The school had its usual memorial garden on the Headmasters Lawn but these were added to this year with silhouetted Tommies standing silently around the garden. The iconic memorial arch was decorated with a cascade of poppies and each evening the Last Post was sounded. On Saturday morning the whole school gathered to hear the names of those who fell from the school, to listen to Harmonix sing a new piece composed by Mr King and to pledge themselves to work for peace and justice in our world.
