A group of Sixth Form historians enjoyed a hugely informative study tour to Paris over the first weekend of the half term holidays.
The first day (Friday) saw students partake in a walking tour of Paris seeing a range of sights associated with Pre-Revolutionary, Revolutionary and Napoleonic France including the Place de la Concorde, the site of the Tuileries Palace and the Church of Saint Roch – the burial place of the Enlightenment philosopher Diderot. On Saturday students visited the Palace of Versailles and the Mus’e de l’Arm’e at Les Invalides, before moving on to Napoleon’s tomb at The D’me des Invalides, whilst on Sunday, they visited Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame, as well as the Conciergerie, where prominent prisoners including Marie Antoinette were kept before their execution during the Great Terror.
This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to get to see Paris, and learn about all it’s rich history. Our thanks go out to Mr Batten for his fantastic tour guiding, to Mr Hudson for this report and to Madame McCaffrey for her expertise in all things Parisian.
