Earlier this week, Sixth Form student Joe M (Sy) represented Bloxham School in Oxford Regional round of this year’s Articulation Competition – a public speaking event where students talk knowledgeably about a single work of art that inspires them.

Joe chose to present Jean Michel Basquiat’s painting ‘Leonardo’s Top 40 Hits’ 1982, a challenging piece of graffiti art. He performed extremely well and received the following feedback from the judge, Dr Marika Leino, Lecturer in Renaissance Art History at Oxford Brookes University;“Joe was a fantastic participant and he dealt very well with the technical problems graciously and patiently. His enthusiasm for Basquiat’s work really came though and it was very well presented to the audience. Please do pass on our many congratulations.” Marika’s feedback for Joe also commented on how good it was to include different media and to use music as a tool to allow the audience to focus and understand the work in another dimension.

Well done Joe!
