On Tuesday, Old Bloxhamist Ollie Kilgallon (Wn 12-17) and Lower Sixth Form student Sam Lowe (Cr) were invited to exhibit their work at the final of the Young Furniture Makers Competition in London at which Sebastian Conran awarded prizes & certificates.
The 2017 exhibition saw around 120 of the UK’s finest young furniture designers and makers showcasing their work at The Furniture Makers’ Hall in Austin Friars. Exhibitors came from secondary schools, FE and HE colleges and there was a wide range of furniture products on show. Alex Crofts, Chairman of the Young Furniture Makers explained, “The Young Furniture Makers Exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for our guests and members to meet talented young British designers and furniture makers, the future of our industry”.
Ollie displayed his laminated oak centre light whilst Sam displayed his reclaimed timber occasional table.
Winners in the Schools category included a unit for storing a turntable and accompanying vinyl records, a laminated chair, a flame table and a gaming chair.
