Last week was a busy week of exercises for both the Bloxham 3rd and 4th Form CCF cadets.

The 3rd Form spent Thursday doing weapon training on the L98A2 rifle and all passed their weapon handling test by the end of the day. They then live fired on the school’s indoor 25 yard 0.22 indoor range. In the evening they moved to Hobb Hill and set up their bashas in a harbour area and prepared their evening meal with the 24 hour ration pack and spent the night sleeping under their bashas.

On Friday morning they had lessons on: duties of a sentry, moving with and without a rifle and selecting and using ground and cover. In the afternoon they did a series of blank firing exercises learning how to react to effective enemy fire and firing from different positions before learning how to clean their rifles.

The 4th form did the NCO cadre which, if they pass, makes them eligible for promotion to L/Cpl. This involved acting as section commanders for the 3rd form and delivery classroom and fieldcraft lessons. At the end of the cadre Cdt Jamie Jeffrey was promoted to the rank of L/Cpl.

This was a challenging but rewarding exercise, which pupils gained valuable experiences from.
