Bloxham School GCSE drama students saw “The Woman in Black” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” in London last Thursday

As part of their GCSE coursework, Bloxham students experienced a drama filled day, taking part in workshops and seeing “The Woman in Black” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” in London’s West End’

The adventure began with watching the thrilling and ghostly production ‘The Woman in Black’. Tension was high as we discovered Mr. Kipp’s ghost story and waited, quivering on the edge of our seats, for sightings of the woman herself. Heart stopping moments of terror caused more than a few screams and that tension wasn’t released in the post-production workshop that was held on the set itself. A highlight of the workshop occurred when students were asked to approach the door which led to the attic where they had seen the Woman in Black violently rocking in her chair. ‘The door had been rigged to knock back and to suddenly open as students approached it; causing not only the students participating in the activity, but also those in the audience, to jump out of their seats and scream.

The evening was spent at the Gielgud Theatre, watching the award winning “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” where students were entranced by the physical theatre special effects, especially the escalator which magically appeared on the back wall which Christopher walked down.

Students will now complete coursework on these unforgettable productions for unit 2 of their GCSE.
