Bloxham School A-level students travelled to London to see “The Threepenny Opera” at the National Theatre on Tuesday

‘The Threepenny Opera’ at the National Theatre was attended by the entire A- level cohort as part of their study of the German playwright, Bertolt Brecht.

The group were gripped by the thrilling story of the corrupt Mac the Knife as they saw the Brechtian Verfremdungseffekt techniques they are studying in action. With live musicians (dressed in costumes and occasionally dancing!), an obvious lighting rig and an incredible set made of wooden slats and brown paper which cast members ripped and pushed themselves through, the students thoroughly enjoyed this re-telling of ‘The Beggars Opera’.
